Chiefs Demolish 49ers, Move to 3-0

Before the season began I thought that going into week 4, the Chiefs bye week, I would be talking about rebooting the jets and getting back on track . I had this entire speech ready, how the Chiefs just need to keep battling and keep improving. Wrong! Now I am thinking that the Chiefs having a bye week comes at the worst time, because the Chiefs are firing on all cylinders! The Chiefs improved to 3-0 with a thrashing over San Francisco, moving to 1st in the AFC West, with a two game lead over their division foes.

In their first two weeks the Chiefs beat their opponents with their defense, now it was time to for the offense to show they can contribute. They did just that and Matt Cassel finally looked worth the paycheck that he receives every week. Cassel was 16/27 for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns. The one-two punch of Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles w [1]as deadly with both just a few yards shy of breaking the 100 yard marker. Jones with 95 yards and Charles with 97. The Chiefs finally got some confidence, pulling a fake end around flea flicker that saw Cassel drop a 45 yard bomb to Dwayne Bowe. Now that the Chiefs are able to run and stretch the field, with a stifling defense, teams have a lot to be frightened about when they come to the New Arrowhead.

Rookie tight end Tony Gonzalez, I mean Moeaki, continues to be Cassel’s main target hauling in 4 passes, one of which was a spectacular one handed grab for a touchdown. It was a very similar play to that of Randy Moss burning Darrelle Revis a week ago. Their is a lot to be excited about with this young tight end, dependable hands, nice blocking, and a knack for the end zone. Moeaki is looking like a nice replacement for the beloved and heralded great Chief tight end Tony Gonzalez.

Rookie Scat back Dexter McCluster had a nice 31 yard catch run, and when you seem his moves and cutting ability, along with his vision just makes you reminisce about the days of Dante Hall, the human joy stick.

Th [2]e defense didn’t do to shabby either, holing the 49ers to three points for 59 minutes and 56 seconds, giving up a late and meaningless touchdown as time expired. Even though it meant nothing, Romeo Crennel prides himself and his defense on fighting til the end, and these next two weeks, Crennel is going to keep reminding the defense they got sloppy at the end.

The Chiefs are 3-0, yes none of the teams have a winning record, but the Chiefs didn’t make the schedule, they just play their games every Sunday. One of their better tests will come in two weeks against the defending AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. However, the bye comes at a perfect time, giving the staff and players two weeks to break down film and get ready for October 10th.
