It is a tough job being a Redskins fan. You have so much hope and admiration for a team then they go and do something like losing to the Rams 30-16. The only thing that makes this loss even worse is that the Cowboys beat the Texans who beat us last week. I mean seriously! However, with the Giants also losing, there is now a 3 way tie for 2nd (or last) in the NFC East between the Redskins, Cowboys and Giants. The Eagles are #1 at 2-1 and guess who’s playing them next week in Philadelphia? The Redskins of course. McNabb will have his loudest boos of his career there.
Within 6 minutes of the first quarter, the Rams were up 14-0 (one a very long run TD and a short pass TD). WR Santana Moss fumbled the ball to give the Rams possession which resulted in their 2nd TD. He also received a 15 yard penalty! The Redskins also started the game with no punter as Josh Bidwell got injured during warm-up, so K Graham Gano had to wear 2 hats. Good news though? S Kareem Moore was in and he had a great game (even recording an interception).
The second quarter was all Redskins. First was a FG (Redskins had 1st down at the 14 yard line but couldn’t capitalize). The second was a TD pass to Santana Moss (his first error forgiven). The third score by the Redskins was another FG. This time at the 6 yard line 14-13 Ram into the half. If they could only have TDs instead of FGs, it would have been 21-14 Redskins. A whole different game.
The second half was all Rams. The Redskins only managed 1 FG for their 16 points, while the Rams chalked up 16 more points. 16! McNabb also recorded his first interception in 145 passes.
Positives from this loss? The running game with 116 yards rushing (25 of which were McNabb’s), which they had to get going. Although Portis did start well, Ryan Torain stood out. Tweets were numerous with gems such as:
When It Torains, It Pours
All Torain Vehicle
Then when he wasn’t playing so well:
The Torain has left the station
Blame it on Torain (yeah yeah) – Nice Milli Vanilli reference
One other thing that I noticed was the defense slipping on the turf. DeAngelo Hall and LaRon Landry were slipping and sliding and missing tackles. Should they practice more on artificial turf or get better cleats?
Here are the numbers for the game. McNabb and Bradford are identical. There was only 1 pass TD by the Rams and Redskins. There were 3 FGs by each team. The difference came down to 2 rushing TDs to make the 14 point difference. These numbers should have the game tied.

I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s). My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher. Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
