Starting the pre-season 1-3-0, the San Jose Sharks continue to trim their roster as their date with the Addler Eagles gets closer in Mannheim, Germany on October 2nd.
Forward Brandon Mashinter was re-assigned Monday to Worcester after appearing in 3 of the 4 pre-season games. At 6’3 225 lbs, Mashinter can definitely bang but he needs to improve on his speed in order to get to the net for quality scoring opportunities when he has the puck. Players placed on waivers Monday were (D) Jay Leach, (D) Sean Sullivan, and (F) TJ Trevelyan. Sullivan looked like he was improving each time I watched him, especially at home against Phoenix where he jumped up into a rush on a broken play forced by Dany Heatley. The Sharks came in on a 3-on-1 and Sullivan sniped the top corner of the Phoenix net-minder.
On Sunday, the following 11 players were reassigned to the following clubs:
Justin Braun D Worcester (AHL)
Dan DaSilva RW Worcester (AHL)
Andrew Desjardins C Worcester (AHL)
Kevin Henderson LW Worcester (AHL)
Carter Hutton G Worcester (AHL)
Tony Lucia LW Worcester (AHL)
James Marcou RW Worcester (AHL)
Cory Quirk LW Worcester (AHL)
Harri Sateri G Tampere (FNL)
Alex Stalock G Worcester (AHL)
Steven Zalewski C Worcester (AHL)
With these subtractions, the team is sitting with 29 players and will shed their roster down to 24 before they leave for Europe on Thursday.
