Boise State vs New Mexico State Preview

So it begins…WAC play.  Boise State has come through one fourth of its schedule unbeaten.  From Landover to Laramie and back to the blue turf, Boise has looked like the team that everyone thought they would be at the beginning of the season.  They have showed perseverance in the 33-30 win against Virginia Tech.  Against Wyoming they showed off their explosive talent on both offense and defense coming away with a 51-6 victory.  And against Oregon State, they showed why they have the best home field advantage in football winning 37-24 making it their 57th consecutive win at home. Their next task, to beat a New Mexico State team that is currently 0-3 and ranks in the bottom of college football in many of the major statistical categories.

Boise State will rely on the arm of Hesiman hopeful Kellen Moore as he leads one of the most dangerous passing attacks in all of college football. Wide receivers Austin Pettis and Titus Young have combined for over 500 yards receiving as well as six touchdown receptions.  A surprise to many this year has been the play of running back Doug Martin.  In the past three games, Martin has been the balance at running back that has helped get the Broncos to a 3-0 start.  He leads the team with 326 rushing yards, and against Oregon State he was the closer the Broncos needed to desperately seal the game.  He looks to have another big game against a New Mexico State team, who in its previous three games has allowed over 40 points a game.

New Mexico State coach, DeWayne Walker, has the tough task of trying to pull off an upset against one of the best schools in the country.  And frankly, he doesn’t have the talent level to do so.  The lone bright spot on this team has been the play of Junior quarterback Matt Christian.  He has completed over 50 percent of his passes and has thrown for 570 yards in his first three games. In order to make this game relevant in any way for New Mexico State, they must try their best to keep this game close. With the talent level that Boise State has on offense as well as on defense this game will be a blowout.

My prediction is that Boise State will win 63-7 in a game where Boise needs to flex its offensive muscle and beat the Aggies in a convincing fashion.
