KU vs Baylor

The Kansas Jayhawks look to start their Big XII Conference season by taking on the Baylor Bears this Saturday morning in Waco. On the national scene this game doesn’t hold much weight with such games as Florida vs Alabama, or Oklahoma vs Texas, but to these two teams it means just as much. Both teams need to win this game as they look ahead to more tougher match ups during the remainder of the conference season. A win here will get either team closer to a bowl game, which for both teams is a must. For the Jayhawks, a win here would maybe send their confidence soaring. A road conference win against a Big XII south opponent in Turner Gill’s first year as head coach would be an incredible get right off the bat. The last time these two teams met, the Jayhawks pounded the Bears 58-10 back in 2007. I don’t see the score being that lopsided this time around. The Bears come into this game with my opinion the best athlete in the Big XII, Robert Griffin. The Jayhawk defense will be in a fight all game long trying to just contain Griffin, who has thrown for 971 yards and 8 touchdowns, to having thrown just 2 picks. Not only that he has rushed for 3 touchdowns on the ground as well. The defense will also have to worry about a ground game where four Bears are averaging 4.5 to 8 yards per carry. The Jayhawk offense should be able to move the ball as long as they play loose and confident like they did last week. I know that the Aggies are not the Bears, but I would have to say in Baylor’s only true test this year, TCU, the Bears gave up 45 points. The Jayhawks will need a steady game from Jordan Webb, especially since backup Kale Pick is hurt, but I don’t think he will have to be outstanding to win this game. That honor falls upon last weeks duo of D.J. Beshears and James Sims. If both can have similar games like last weeks I do believe the Jayhawks can find a way to upset the Bears. If not, then it might be a long Saturday morning in Waco for the visiting team.
