Week 4 preview: FAU vs USF

FAU continues their grueling schedule as they travel to Tampa to play the University of South Florida on Saturday, Oct. 2nd. For FAU, it will be another challenging game, while for USF, it will be another notch on their belt as they continue their spotty schedule.

I wish I could tell you that USF shouldn’t under estimate the Owls, but after last weeks performance by both teams, I fear for FAU. The Bulls offense does exactly what you would expect a bull to do. Run. In their last game against Western Kentucky where they won 24-12, the team as a whole rushed for 226 yards on 44 carries. Demetris Murray ran for 115 yards alone. Since FAU’s defense is weakest against the run, this could be a disaster. If the Owls have any hope of a victory in this game, they need to stuff the running game. If that proves to be too much of a challenge, which it most likely will, the FAU Offense needs to answer every one of USF’s scores.

I can only hope that, judging from FAU’s surprising loss last week, they decided to do their homework this week. Since the Owls offense seems to do the complete opposite from what you would expect their game plan to be, I’m going to go ahead and say they will look to the air in this game. The Jeff Van Camp/Lester Jean duo has been a positive ray of hope. We should expect to see Jean getting the ball a lot in this game. The O-line did a fairly good job last week of giving Van Camp plenty of time to throw. Let’s hope they keep that up. However, the USF defense is not one to be taken lightly. FAU will have to have a mix of air and ground attacks. They need to keep the Bulls guessing.

Bottom Line: FAU is in for a rough ride. This game is up there with the list of challenging games this season. The defense will have to be on the top of their game in this one or else the offense will be overwhelmed with having to answer points scored against them.

Prediction: USF wins by two touchdowns
