Saturday’s afternoon game against the Ohio University Bobcats will be Homecoming for the Eagles 2010, the tradition started in the 1926 football season when the Michigan Normal School (Eastern Michigan University) defeated Kalamazoo College 19-0 on Nov. 29.

The Eagles record for the Homecoming game is 43-37-2 including winning three of the last five games.

Both teams are struggling this season, Ohio University enters the game with Eagles with one win and three losses, the lone victory came against Wofford 31-10 opening the season with a great deal of hope for a successful season.

The series will continue Saturday afternoon and it will be the 28th time they have met with Bobcats leading the series 15-11-1, the last time the Eagles defeated the Bobcats at Rynearson Stadium occurred Oct . 16, 1999 when the Eagles squeezed a 27-26 victory after the Bobcat extra point attempt was blocked with 1:06 in regulation.

A win against the Eagles would be just what the doctor prescribed to cure the Bobcats sorry season, the Bobcat would reach the 500 win plateau in the programs history.

If Ohio University does defeat the Eagles it even Bobcat football coach overall record to the .500 percentage mark.

Eastern Michigan Players to Watch:

QB Alex Gillett – Maybe Eastern Michigan University football coach Ron English will abandon the two-man competition for the starting job since he said after the game at Ohio State that he was pleased with Gillett performance against the Buckeyes.

Gillett did not turn the ball over against the Buckeye defense, he threw 22 times and completed 13 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns, he looks like the experience that he got last season appearing in nine game as a freshman has help his confidence and his performance.

WR Kinsman Thomas – He is enjoying a fine sophomore season for the Eagles, he is capable of making huge plays and he looks like he is comfortable for English offense as the big play guy.

Last Saturday afternoon at Ohio State he caught the ball three times for 65 yards which included a touchdown reception of 13 yards, this season he has 22 receptions.

TE Ben Thayer is the lifeline for Gillett the senior tight end not only blocks well but he leads the Eagle receiving corps with 15 catches for 164 yards including five receptions for 75 yards against the Buckeyes.

LB Neal Howey – Is leading the Eagles and the Mid-American Conference with 44 tackles 21 of those stops are solo.

LB Matt Boyd – Made his first start last Saturday against the Ohio State University Buckeyes and he kept busy by making 14 tackles giving the Eagles some stable line backing support.

Eagle Odd and Ends:

Eastern Michigan University leads the Mid-American Conference in punting, Australian Jay Karutz has punted 23 times for an average of 41.2 yards which places Karutz No. 50 in the NCAA. Karutz has landed seven punts inside the 20-yard line.

Fullback Mike Marrow, transfer from Alabama who sought a hardship waiver so that he can play right away is expected to be available this week for the game, he has been practicing with squad during the fall camp.

Place kicker Sean Graham is a Florida State University transfer and he has made 10 out of 11 extra point attempts this season but English has yet to call on the kicker for a field goal attempt this season.
