It Could Happen?

The Padres lost three out of four games against the Cubs in a very crucial series.  The Padres offense decided to not show up scoring only five runs in four games, getting shut out in two of them.  Like most of the last month the Padres have really been struggling to score runs.  The Padres brought in the help at the trade deadline to score more runs, but although Tejada has been helpful, the team still cannot score runs.  The Padres are still alive heading up to San Francisco down three games in the West.  It will be very hard, the Giants are a good team and they have four pitchers throwing very well right now.  A struggling offense and good pitching equals very little runs.  The Padres will miss Lincecum, but will face Cain, Zito, and Sanchez.  Sanchez has been lights out in September, giving up four runs in five starts during the month.  It is hard to be optimistic but crazier things have happened.

Heath Bell picked a bad time to get his first loss of the season.  Bell is 6-1 and his one loss came in perhaps the biggest game of the year for the Pads.  Bell did not get rocked as he gave up one run and that run coming off a chopper that got threw the infield into left to score the runner from second.  It would have been nice to have Venable in the line-up the first two games of the Cubs series, he was out with a back injury.  You can see the difference he makes with his bat in the line-up and speed on the bases.  As well as his amazing ground he covers in the outfield, as we saw in game three, the Padres only win of the series.    The Padres certainly didn’t get any help for their playoff push.  The Diamondbacks and Marlins both got swept by the Giants and Braves.  It really could not have worked out worse for the Padres in the last four days.

It’s magic time baby, lets go Pads!
