The Chargers have started the 2010 season with a 1-2 record. Both of the Chargers loses have come on the road. If you are a Chargers fan it is no secret how much better we play at home, like most of the teams in the NFL. With the game being at home you can expect the offense to be run much more smoothly and the defense to take advantage of the other teams mistakes and maybe get some turnovers. The Cardinals are not much more threatening on offense then the Jaguars were in week two except for Larry Fitzgerald. With poor QB play it limits Fitzgerald and his abilities so the Chargers will hopefully be able to contain him. Quentin Jammer will also help in doing so. The Cardinals do have Tim Hightower a hard running back who I have personally liked over the past two years. The Chargers need to watch for the screen plays the Cardinals like to run and hold Hightower to a low yards per carry.
Right now the Chargers offense can only be slowed down by themselves. Especially at home, Rivers and the offense should exploit the Cardinals average defense and put up big time yardage. Look for Rivers to hit receivers over the middle of the field. Hitting Gates and the slot receivers against the weak Arizona linebackers. I really like what I have seen from Buster Davis going back to the end of last season. It almost makes me understand why we drafted him in the first round. If he can stay healthy he is a talented receiver and another nice option for Rivers.
It looks like Merriman will not be playing on Sunday and for sure English is out. This gives Applewhite a chance to step up. He is a relentless player and I really like how he comes off the edge in his pass rush. Also Mathews will most likely play but I’m sure that Norv will limit his carries, so we will see a lot of Tolbert. Hopefully in the fourth quarter with a lead, running over defenders. The way I like to see him.
