After a rough start to the season the Cowboys are on their bye, and with a few players already banged up an early bye week is right on time for them.
Dez Bryant has what is being called a stress fracture on his ribs, and probably more worrisome is that Bryant hurt his hip during the Houston game. He was held out of practice both Wednesday and Thursday and probably won’t practice until next week. It’s a good thing he’ll have this week to rest as hip injuries can really slow a player down, and have Bryant on the field with Miles Austin and Roy Williams will be paramount to Dallas’ passing attack.
Jason Witten played through a knee sprain against the Texans, and Wade Phillips is optimistic that he’ll be good to go when Tennessee comes to town Witten should be cleared to play. Witten is another player the Cowboys will need to have as healthy as possible for the long haul this season and can ill afford to be without him for a prolonged period of time.
Dallas’s line which has also been hurting is probably in need of this bye the most. Kyle Kosier reinjured his knee in the Texans game and may not be ready for week 5. This is the probably the best possible time for this since Kosier, if he missed the game against the Titans, looks to be out for only 1 game, and the line without Kosier and Colombo is obviously not what Dallas wants it to be. Speaking of Colombo he was also held out of practice this week for precautionary measures, and he is probably more important to have for the line to function as he is pivotal in keeping Alex Baron off the field.
The Cowboys are banged up at some key positions and along with their important win in Houston, getting healthy at key positions can only help them if they are to have any hope of regrouping from a difficult start to the 2010 season.
