Patriots Dolphins MNF Preview

The Patriots definitely have a tough game this week, traveling to Miami to face the Dolphins on Monday Night Football. The Dolphins are hungry after fighting the Jets and coming up empty last weekend and the only thing that will satisfy them is beating the Patriots on national television. The Patriots just came off an embarrassing win, beating the Bills by only 8 and allowing them to score 30 points. This week they face a much tougher team and will have to make a lot of adjustments to stop the Dolphins’ offense.

Personally I think the Patriots’ defense is a little outmatched this game. They are not going to be able to stop the running of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown. Besides Vince Wilfork and an emerging LB Jerod Mayo, the Pats don’t have a lot of guys that are big impact players on defense. Aside from their lack of run-stopping ability, Brandon Marshall will probably have his way with the Patriots’ corners this week. Chad Henne will be looking his way a lot, and with the Patriots not having the best coverage corners, Marshall should be open a lot and should have a very productive day. The strong part about the Patriots is their offense, but that too will have some problems this week.

The Dolphins have a very solid defense led by newcomer Karlos Dansby and stud cornerback Vontae Davis. Dansby is good at stuffing the run and rushing the passer. He will be able to get in on a somewhat struggling Pats’ O-Line and should force Brady to make some bad passes. Davis should be lined up against Moss and will make it hard for Moss to get open. He is a good coverage corner and should limit Moss’ catches. If the Patriots want to establish any offense they will need to utilize all their players, which is something Brady is very good at doing. He has been throwing to rookie TE Aaron Hernandez a lot and should continue to look his way this game. Green-Ellis has his work cut out for him since Fred Taylor has been ruled out of this game. Brady needs to do what he always does, and that is use all his weapons to keep the Dolphins’ defense on their toes. If he can do that and Ellis has a decent game running the ball, they should be able to put up some points.

Based on last week’s performance, I do not think the Patriots will be able to keep up with this young Dolphins team. I see the Dolphins winning this one 27-17.
