Well that sucked. I guess you could say it went better than it was supposed to. Garrett Gilbert is an enigma. I can’t figure out what the problem is with him. He spends the first half doing nothing then late in the game he makes a couple plays. Put a whole game together, please. OU put fourteen points up in the first quarter; DJ Monroe responded with a 60 yard touchdown run. UT then spent the 2nd, 3rd and most of the fourth shooting themselves in the foot. So much so, it was like they were shooting toe by toe.
The key number here is- ZERO turnovers for OU. UT recoverd a fumble but it was overturned by an offsides call.
In the second half, the defense looked like they finally grew a pair. The defensive effort was outstanding. They were finally playing like Longhorns. The offense was a disgrace. Props to OU’s D, but holy crap Gilbert, throw downfield kid!
Then Williams fumbled the punt that could have given UT a chance to tie the game. Damn it. Just wasn’t their day. At the end of the day, with this UT team, a chance to win against a top opponent is about the best we could’ve asked for.
