Iowa State 52, Texas Tech 38

The Cyclone offense finally came alive tonight just at the right time too, well with playing Texas Tech. The Cyclones “O” came out of the gates roaring to a 24-0 lead for most of the first half, but the dastardly Red Raiders came back and tie the game up. For a minute while watching the game tonight, you would think you were watching a baseball game with the “pitcher duel” going on between the two quarterbacks. Austen Arnaud threw a career-high four touchdown passes and Taylor Potts threw five touchdown passes for Texas Tech, but it was Arnaud’s tema that came out on top in the end.
It wasn’t just the offense that led to the big victory for the Cyclones, the whole team played a part in it too. The defense force the Raiders to fumble late in the third quarter with both teams at a dead lock at 24 a piece. Detron Lews fumble and Iowa State’s Jake Knott recovered the ball at the Raider’s 39 yard line, which led to an Iowa State score. The special teams cap off the victory for the Cyclones with a on side kick returned for a touchdown by Jeremy Reeves. Even the running game had a top notch performance by having both Alexander Robinson rush for a 103 yards on 12 carries and Freshman Shontrelle Johnson rushed for 102 yards on 12 carries as well. It was the first time since the ’04 Independence bowl that the Cyclones on two different 100 yard rushers.
Tonight’s game while a complete team effort by the Cyclones. Even though the offense stood out, the defense made a big play by recovering the fumble to really swing their team to victory. Hopefully this team effort will continue next week as #13 Utes of Utah come to play. If the Cyclones want a victory against them then they need to play just as well, if not better next week. It’s going to a tall order to fill for the Iowa State cause Utah has yet to be defeated, the Utes might spoil the “luck” the Clones been having at home this season thus far but we shall see next week. Who knows Iowa State might have a few tricks up their sleeve.
