Iowa Hawkeye’s Adrian Clayborn Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

With his game-high 10 tackles in Iowa’s 24-3 win against Penn State on Saturday, Iowa’s senior defensive end Adrian Clayborn was named by the Big Ten today as its Defensive Player of the Week. Last week, Iowa’s junior defensive tackle Mike Daniels was named by the Big Ten as its co-defensive Player of the Week with his four tackles and seven-yard sack in the September 25 Ball State game.
Clayborn’s 10 tackles in the Penn State game helped keep the team out of the end zone. Among his three tackles for loss, Clayborn helped push the Nittany Lions’ offense back 19 yards and held the team to a field goal. He also sacked Penn State’s quarterback Robert Bolden for a loss of 15 yards.
On Saturday, Iowa’s defense limited the Nittany Lions to 54 rushing yards and allowed only three of 13 third-down conversions.
Today’s Big Ten honor is the third one for Clayborn. In 2009, he was recognized twice by the Big Ten: in the Penn State game, Clayborn was recognized for Iowa’s special teams win against Penn State and he was named by the Big Ten as the defensive Player of the Week in Iowa’s win against Michigan State.
Clayborn’s career high is 12 tackles.
