Preseason Notes: Game 1 Vs Milano (Milano)

It was fitting, almost as if it couldn’t happen any other way, that Amar’e Stoudemire scored the first basket of the preseason for the Knicks. A quick, turnaround drive punctuated by an emphatic slam dirtied the Knicks score sheet early on in the 125 – 113 oversees defeat of a team denoted on ESPN.com as Milano Milano.

Stoudemire made no secret of the fact that he is the man for the orange and blue. No more talk of Steve Nash or any other of his former Suns counter parts will leave the mouths of any naysayers. It’s Amar’e’s team – better get used to it.

Leading the team with 32 points, Stoudemire shot the ball efficiently and grabbed six boards. Even in a fairly sloppy game against a team that is literally not in the same league as New York, he is just fun to watch.

But the biggest summer acquisition wasn’t the only Knick to stand out in a game that acted as a tune up for the tune ups. Danilo Gallinari showed that he’s still got the long range stroke, hitting five three pointers on his own personal home floor (ok, so he took 11, but it’s preseason). It was obvious that he was exhilarated to be back home.  That type of raw energy is what makes Gallo so good.

The three scoring leaders went in the exact order that you’d expect. Amar’e, Gallo, Chandler. Wilson Chandler had 17 points on 7 -9 shooting. If these three contribute consistently on a nightly basis, and shoot as efficiently as they did, things should fall into place for the other two on the floor.

One player that was surprisingly impressive was Timothy Mozgov. Mozgov played 19 minutes, scoring ten point, but showed a “feistyness” that was unexpected. Good to see that from a young, European player.

The Knicks play the Timberwolves on Tuesday at 2 in Paris.

Much more on pre season to come this week…and beyond.
