Michael Vick Injury: Can the Philadelphia Eagles Recover?

If Michael Vick misses any games due to the rib injury suffered in the loss to the Washington Redskins, the Eagles won’t win many more games.

Michael Vick is the key to the Philadelphia Eagles’ success, this season and in the future.

Over the past 2.5 games, Vick has been one of the best players in the entire league. His immense improvement from the quarterback he used to be has worked wonders for the entire Eagles team.

The Eagles are a completely different team with Vick behind center. His incredible speed and athleticism allows finesse receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin ample time to get open downfield.

As Vick is scrambling behind the average Eagles’ offensive line, he has been looking downfield and hitting Jackson and Maclin in stride with pinpoint accuracy, aided by his powerful arm.

Vick is too difficult for a team to gameplan for because he is a dual threat. Kevin Kolb is not now, nor was he ever, the answer to the Eagles’ quarterback situation.

Kolb has yet to show any signs that he is a capable quarterback. His arm strength appears non-existent, as he was having trouble getting the ball to his receivers throughout the game.

His vision was pathetic. He was unable to read the coverage, and missed open receivers the entire game. He looked just as bad Week 4 as he did throughout the preseason.

It was evident that the receivers lacked faith in Kolb. Both Jackson and Maclin appeared frustrated often as they were getting open downfield, but Kolb either didn’t see them because he wasn’t looking past the line of scrimmage or he flat-out missed the throw.

If the Eagles hope to have any success this season, they need Vick playing quarterback.

Vick injects life into the team.

He is clearly respected and welcomed by the team as they understand he gives them the best opportunity to win each and every week.

With Vick’s new-found accuracy and vision, he is turning himself into one of the most complete quarterbacks in the league, which many envisioned for him years ago.

It was evident the Eagles were in for a long day with Kolb when they had to kick a field goal after Vick was injured on a play called back by a holding penalty. Vick marched the team down the field into scoring position.

Once he left, the offense sputtered for the rest of the game, in large part because of Kolb, who failed to throw accurate passes and see open receivers.

Running back LeSean McCoy also suffered a rib injury in the game. He is instrumental to the success of Kolb, as evident by the seemingly endless amount of checkdowns Kolb threw his way en route to 12 receptions.

Kolb presents no threat to a defense in any way whatsoever. Teams will be able to shut down Jackson because Kolb has yet to display any arm strength or accuracy to get the ball to him.

Vick was connecting with his receivers with fantastic precision and timing. The chemistry is clearly there for the Eagles when Vick is playing.

The Eagles look frustrated on almost every play we’ve seen with Kolb at quarterback. It doesn’t seem like his teammates trust Kolb to lead them to victory. Until Kolb gives them a reason to believe, they will lose time and time again.

For Philadelphia’s sake, they better hope Vick’s pain tolerance is extremely high.
