It was the Patrick Chung show tonight. He blocked a punt, blocked a field goal and returned an interception for a TD. This second year player out of Oregon was taken in the second rd of the 2009 draft and has shown a lot of potential. With his performance tonight, he is definitely going to be a player opposing teams will keep their eye on.
Aside from Chung, the rest of the Patriot team had a pretty good game. The defense looked energetic while the offense looked smooth for the most part. The first half was a struggle for The Pats only scoring 6 points, but the defense kept them in the game by only allowing 7. The second half was a completely different looking football game. The Patriots special teams was on fire having 2 blocked kicks and a kick-off return touchdown. Brandon Tate took back the opening kick of the 3rd quarter for a TD and really energized this Patriots team. The Patriots got the ball back quickly after that and ran a no-huddle offense for most of the series and capped off a quick drive with a Green-Ellis 12-yard TD run. With a 20-7 they looked in control, however The Dolphins answered immediately by a score of their own making it 20-14 and what looked like a ball game. The lack of offense shown in the first half definitely disappeared in the second. After the Dolphins last scoring drive, the Patriots had a rebuttal of their own having a 12 play 78 yard touchdown drive finished off by a Danny Woodhead receiving TD. Brady and the offense were looking great. From there, it was all uphill for The Pats. They blocked a FG and returned it for a TD while also intercepted a 3rd Chad Henne pass and returned that for a TD. They ended up winning the game 41-14.
At first, The Dolphins seemed somewhat in control, but The Patriots hung in there and eventually let their defense and special teams take complete control of the game. This was a big division win for The Patriots improving to 3-1. Unfortunately, all this momentum may come to a halt since The Patriots have a BYE this week.
Some notable statistics:
Brady went 19-24 for 153 yards and a TD.
Benjarvus ran the ball 16 times for 76 yards and a TD.
Wes Welker had 8 catches for 70 yards.
Rob Ninkovich had his 1st and 2nd career interceptions.
Jerod Mayo had 14 total tackles and really stepped up for this Patriots defense.
