Philadelphia (97-65) vs Cincinnati (91-71)
PHILLIES ROSTER
REDS ROSTER
When I look at this Cincinnati ballclub, I see some similarities between this 2010 Reds team and the 2007 Phillies team when it comes to the makeup of the squad. The 2007 season marked the beginning of the most dominating franchise in the National League the last four seasons, the Phillies. The season marked the first of four consecutive NL East crowns for the Phils. In that year, Philadelphia was swept in the NLDS by the red hot Colorado Rockies. Many of the marguee franchise players got their first tastes of postseason play; Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels are just a few names. The franchise made its first playoff appearance since 1993.
Let’s take a glance at the Reds franchise. Cincinnati makes their first playoff appearance since 1995. Just like Utley, Howard, and Rollins back in 2007, the Reds have some young and promising talent that they will showcase on the postseason spotlight for the first time. Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce, Edinson Volquez, Johnny Cueto and Aroldis Chapman are a few young, gifted names making their postseason debuts.
Like the 2007 Phillies, this 2010 Reds team has the same mentality; mash the baseball.
Fans in Philadelphia are thinking World Series Championship. It remains to be seen whether or not this Phillies squad can get to the World Series for the third consecutive year, and bring a World Series title back to Broad Street. Unlike the last two World Series teams, the team’s strength lies in the starting pitching. Don’t get me wrong, they may even still be the best offensive team in baseball, but the starting pitching is the best in baseball. NL Cy Young frontrunner Roy Halladay makes his playoff debut. He may have some jitters, but I wouldn’t be too worried about him. Oswalt is a playoff veteran, and Hamels is the 2008 NLCS and World Series MVP. Oh boy, good luck with that. Oh, and they can still slug the ball. The team is finally healthy as Jayson Werth was the only starting player to not miss any time due to injury this year.
3 Ways the Reds can win the Series…..
3 Ways the Phillies will win the Series…..
Intriguing Individual Matchups
Chase Utley vs Aroldis Chapman
Roy Halladay vs Joey Votto
PREDICTION- Phillies in 4
The matchups during the regular season were close, a lot of one run games. That was back during the summer. The Phillies are a completely different team. I do think the Reds will put up a bit of a fight, but the Phillies have too much firepower.
