Some breaking news in the fantasy world. 2 trades have gone down that will have a slight ripple effect on the fantasy landscape.
Marshawn Lynch has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks and is now in prime position to take over as the physical back that Pete Carroll has been looking for. If he is on waivers for any reason right now grab him up. He is powerful runner and will likely assume goal line duties in Seattle, plus is a decent receiver. Lynch has a good chance at assuming the every down back role in Seattle. Seattle’s schedule is very friendly with Lynch facing bottom 20 run defenses over 7 of their next 12 games.
This trade effects the value of not only Lynch, but Justin Forsett immediately loses value on the Seahawks. Lynch is likely to be the feature guy as Pete Carroll alluded to the idea that he would rather have an all purpose guy. In Buffalo, the value of CJ Spiller and more immediately Fred Jackson go up. Both have value if your in a pinch at the running back position, though both are iffy in the long term because of Buffalo’s porous run game.
The New England Patriots have also traded Randy Moss to the team that originally drafted him, the Minnesota Vikings. The trade gives Minnesota a legit wide receiver for Brett Favre. This will effect both the Vikings and Patriots on a fantasy level. In New England Brandon Tate will likely take over the deep threat role left open by Moss. It also will give added value to Aaron Hernandez, both players are likely to see increased targets and added value. In Minnesota Favre gets a badly needed boost at the wide receiving position where he gets a reliable go to guy in Moss. Favre who’s numbers have been awful so far this season should be elevated by the trade, but players like tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and running back Adrian Peterson should experience a boost as Moss can only improve their offense. Moss’ status will probably remain the same as a must start each week, but the lack of a bye week could take a toll later in the season.
So far 2 trades have gone done, but teams have until October 19th to finalize something and there are likely going to be more going done soon. Keep your eyes open.
