Let Conference Play Begin

Posted By Brian Joyce On Oct 6 2010 @ 11:10 pm In South Florida | No Comments

Finally…..The Bulls play their first Big East game ( some might call it the Big (L)East or the Big Easy  )  this Saturday when USF hosts Syracuse for a noon kickoff. South Florida is looking to turn up the heat on Syracuse, temps. will be in the high 80′s in Tampa.

First of all let’s talk about the Big East and where the conference stands among the other BCS Conference’s.  Safe to say it’s the worst conference among the BCS Conference’s. Right now the Big East doesn’t even have a team in the top 25.  How embarassing is that? I wrote on here a couple of weeks back that the Big East will not have a team that will crack the top 10 this season, right now I’m just asking for a team in the conference to be in the top 25. Eventually a team from the Big East will crack the top 25 and when they do, they’ll stay there but who will it be?   West Virginia and Pitt were ranked in the top 25 when the season started but obviously they didn’t stay long. Pitt had an opening game loss in Utah and then got smoked at home against Miami. On the other hand West Virginia struggled against Marshall ( they needed OT to beat Marshall ) and then lost to  LSU  in Baton Rouge.  I still believe West Virginia is the team to beat in the Big East and eventually get in the top 25.  South Florida has had West Virginia’s number over the years but first things first, USF needs to get past Syracuse this Saturday.

What do we know about  USF and Syracuse? South Florida and Syracuse have three wins each but they haven’t really played anyone.  Both teams schedules have been very soft. The Bulls three wins have come at home against Div. IAA Stony Brook, Western Kentucky, and Florida Atlantic who have a combined record of 2-12.  Son of Lou said he’s interested to see how his team will stack up this Saturday. The Orangmen have wins against Akron ( 0-5 on the season ) and their other two wins are against Div. IAA teams Maine and Colgate. Syracuse like South Florida, when they played someone good, they lost. The Cuse got smoked in Seattle when they played Washington and the Bulls got smothered in Gainesville back in early September.  We’ll know a lot more  this Saturday when conference play finally starts.

Vegas Line: Bulls favored by 8

Prediction: South Florida 23 Syracuse 13

All Time Series: USF leads 5-0
