TSN is reporting the Edmonton Oilers have swung a deal to sent Sheldon Souray to the Hershey Bears, the Washington Capitals’ farm team.
The Oilers have yet to publicly confirm or deny today’s events, but is seems quite possible given the club had until 1 p.m. today to trim their roster to the league requirement prior to kicking off the season at home Thursday vs. their southern Alberta nemesis, the Calgary Flames.
In other Edmonton news today, team GM, Steve Tambellini, also named 10-year veteran Oiler forward Shawn Horcoff as the team’s 13th captain.
No surprises there, as Horcoff had been rumoured, and to some extent was the logical choice, to become the team’s newest captain. Of all the Oilers’ I’ve interviewed in recent memory, Horc’ goes about his daily business, whether the team was playing in the Stanley Cup finals or sitting in the league’s cellar, with unparalleled professionalism.
Very level-headed player who strives to bring his best to the table, on and off the ice, each and every day. His impact on rookies Eberle and Hall has been tangible since the beginning of training camp, and likely a lot longer than that.
A solid choice, of a man who wears the Oiler logo on his a..
Edmonton continues to carry three goaltenders on its roster; Khabibulin, Deslaurier and Dubnyk – a scenario Tambellini has failed to address as of yet.
In the meantime Oiler fans, chins up…sticks down!
