Seattle Seahawks aquire Marshawn Lynch from the Buffalo Bills

In an attempt to improve their running game the Seahawks aquired Marshawn Lynch from the Buffalo Bills tuesday for a 4th round draft pick in 2011 and either a 6th or 5th round draft pick in 2012 based on Lynch’s performance. Marshawn Lynch who was drafted in the first round of the 2007 draft at 12th overall by the Bills has done decent this year carrying the ball 37 times for 164 yards will looks like he will split time with good friend and former college teamate Justin Forsett. In order to make room for Lynch the Sehawks had to cut former starter Julius Jones. Which wasn’t too much of a surprise since Jones restructured his contract at the start of the season.

With this move the hawks are hoping to improve their running game which is currently 27th overall, and taking pressure off QB Matt Hasselbeck who has been struggling as of late. It also gives the seahawks a much needed playmaker on offense. The Seahawks have also struggled with their offensive line the last couple years with the retirement of future Hall Of Famer Walter Jones.. First Round draftt pick rookie Russell Okung was supposed to be the savior but he hurt his ankle in a preseason game against Green Bay and is just now starting to get playing time. His first start was last week in a loss to St Louis.

The Seahawks have been looking for a brusing, punishing back similar to Lynch’s style for years. Earlier this year they traded for LenDale White but he didn’t even make it out of training camp. Lat year they signed Edgerin James but he was past his prime, a year before that they signed TJ Duckett, but he was worthless. It seems ever since Pro Bowl Guard Steve Hutchinson left for Minnesota as a free agent at the end of the 2005 season the Seahawks have struggled in the running game. They haven’t even had a 1,000 yard rusher during that stretch, the last being Shaun Alexander’s MVP year in 2005. Julius Jones was supposed to be the answer, but he lost the starting job last year to current starter Justin Forsett.

Since the Seahawks have a bye week it should give Lynch time to learn the new the new plays on to get prepared for the Chicago Bears next sunday. The Seahawks however are horrible for off bye weeks recently, they are also horrible on the road with the last win coming November 29, 2009 when they defeated St. Louis 27 – 17. Its too early to tell how Lynch will fit in with the seahawks. But Lynch who is young at only 24 should provide spark to an offense that needs alot of help.
