Martinez record performance fuels Nebraska over Kansas State

The Wildcats are probably happy now that’s over. They won’t have to see Nebraska for a longtime. Taylor Martinez, a red shirt freshman, ran over Kansas State to end the 99-year-old rivalry. He accumulated 242 yards with four touchdowns. That was just on the ground. Martinez also had a 79 yard touchdown pass to go along with that performance. Martinez is fast. He doesn’t look like the fastest athlete on the field, but his speed out in the open is to the next level.
I have to put this one on the Wildcat coaches. They knew what he was capable of and the game plan for Nebraska. Nebraska was going to use the quarterback draw or take it outside so it could exploit the speed of the Wildcats… or the lack of. It seemed that the line and Taylor Martinez were on the same page all night long. Kansas State played man on the plays where Nebraska took advantage. It’s even worse when the defensive linemen are more about trying to get to him than just trying to contain him. In that case, it was a lose-lose situation. Martinez can pass if the defensive line just sits back.
The defense did its job once again. I can’t can more good things the Blackshirts. Every game, it goes out there and proves why it is probably near the top in the Big 12 conference. The defense was on the field for the majority of the game due to quick strikes on offense. Yet it held the Wildcat offense to mere 13 points. It didn’t record a turnover, but kept quarterback Carson Coffman in check all night long. This was a real confidence booster after South Dakota State and the bye week. Now Nebraska hosts Texas after the Longhorns dropped two in a row.
