The Blue Jackets fell just short of earning two points in their first game of the season. They fell to the San Jose Sharks 3-2 as the Sharks scored a powerplay goal during the third period to put them in the lead. If you are a glass half full type of fan then you will see that there are plenty of positives to take from the loss.
Positive #1: Despite Steve Mason having a slow start to the game and letting in two weak goals, he managed to settle in to the game and finished strong. Mason stopped 25 of 28 shots as he begins his quest to rebound from a sub-par season last year.
Positive #2: Kristian Huselius was flying today as he scored one goal on 6 shots in 19 minutes and 6 seconds of playing time. He was skating well and created opportunities every time he stepped on the ice.
Positive #3: The Blue Jackets checking line of R. J. Umberger, Ethan Moreau, and Sami Pahlsson held San Jose’s top line off the scoresheet during 5 on 5 ice time. They also contributed offensively with Umberger’s goal to tie the game at two.
Positive #4: Experts are predicting the San Jose Sharks to win the Western Conference and possibly win the Stanley Cup. Many teams will use their games against the Sharks as a measuring stick to see how strong their team is going to be. If that is the case the Blue Jackets definitely held their own and should make a push all season long for one of the final two playoff spots.
The Blue Jackets will stay in Stockholm, Sweden to play their second game of the season against the San Jose Sharks this afternoon. I would think the Blue Jackets would be extremely happy going home from Sweden with a split. Go Jackets Go!
Let me know which Blue Jacket defenseman you think will earn the most points during the 2010-11 season? Anton Stralman, Fedor Tyutin, or Kris Russell?
My prediction is Anton Stralman.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!
