Chiefs Looking to Strike Oil

Welcome back Chiefs Nation. How does it feel being the only team left in the NFL with a an undefeated record, no you were not picked for the Superbowl, no you did not have your own HBO special, and no one thought you would be undefeated heading into Week 4 in a Conference clash with the very battered, yet very dangerous Indianapolis Colts. Now this may not be the same potent offense Colts that won a Superbowl a few years back or even the same team from last year, but they are still just as deadly. Indy has struggled this year, giving up the ground game-Hello Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles-also defensively they are not as menacing.
Now everyone and their mother is picking Indy to dominate the Chiefs at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, but I have a couple reasons why they shouldn’t be too optimistic. Don’t get me wrong this wont be a walk in the park, this is a very young squad going up against a very lethal and very experienced football team who just got word that one of their top receivers will be back in the mix come Sunday-Pierre Garcon. Any other year I would talk about how the offensive line will have their hands full with Dwight Freeny and Robert Mathis, however Freeny has look rather lack luster this year and without him Mathis does not seem as intimidating. That being said, Freeny will be looking to get on track on Sunday against the Chiefs offensive line.
The running attack, the one-two punch of Jones and Charles has been a very productive tandem. By them being successful, time of possession is in the Chiefs favor and out of Peyton Manning’s hands (that is a good thing). For this running attack to work, Coach Todd Haley is going to have to stay true to his game plan and Matt Cassel has to control the game and make the throws necessary to move the chains.
What the game is really going to come down to is who turns the ball over. If the Chiefs can force some turnovers and make Manning uncomfortable then they have a very good shot at stealing a road win, but if the defensive line allow Manning to sit back and pick apart the secondary, then it could be a long day. With that said, keep in mind the defensive coordinator is Romeo Crennel, and their was no bigger thorn in the side of Manning than Romeo when he was the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. I have a feeling their will be a lot of stunts on the D line and a lot of zone blitzes with Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali rushing quite a bit.
This is a tough game for me to predict my mind tells me that the Colts will give the Chiefs their first loss in 2010, but my gut is telling me that Romeo has had two weeks to watch and game plan. I am going to go 24-20 Chiefs. Bold. Yes. Stupid? We will have to wait and see.
