Mizzou Hammers Colorado in Shut Out

Posted By Sean Griffith On Oct 10 2010 @ 3:44 am In Missouri | No Comments

Blaine Gabbert was good throwing for 191 yards and 2 TD’s and 0 INT’s against Colorado before leaving the game with a hip pointer injury in the early 4th quarter with the game out of hand.  The Tigers defense missing Aldon Smith had 4 sacks, and the defense forced an interception.  The Colorado quarterbacks each threw 20 plus passes completing almost 80 percent but only threw for 250 yards and  1 INT with 0 TD’s in the 26-0 Loss to Mizzou who moves to 5-0 for the 10th time in their 119 year history. The last two times the Tigers started 5-0 they went on to win the Big 12 North and played for the Big 12 Title including a chance at the National Championship in 2007 after moving to #1 after beating #3 Kansas that year.

The game began with three , 3 and outs for the Missouri Tigers but the special teams and defense would set the tone early.  On the first two punts by the Tigers Grabner then Barrow knocked a ball deep inside the 20 at the 1 and 2 yard lines.  The 2nd punt resulted in a safety when the Tigers put pressure on the QB and he threw the ball away and was given an intentional grounding penalty and the Tigers were granted a safety and 2 points.  The 3rd possession by Colorado had them move the ball down the field and the drive ended on a blocked field goal.  The Tigers would get the ball moving and get a field goal to take an early 5-0 lead.  The game was all but over on the 4th possession when Gabbert hit a wide open Jackson in the end-zone early in the 2nd quarter for a TD that moved the Tigers to 12-0.  Then with just 58 seconds left Gabbert threw his 2nd TD pass to Egnew making 19-0.  That was the score until the 4th quarter when Gabbert gave way to James Franklin who after a fake punt threw his first TD pass in college game as a red-shirt freshman.  He would also throw his 1st interception and the game would end 26-0.  The Tigers allowed just 61 yards on 26 carries for a 2.3 rush average and allowed just 311 total yards.

Mizzou aught to move up in the rankings as a few teams just in front of the Tigers fell not to mention #1 Alabama on the road at #16 South Carolina and #12 Florida at home to #14 LSU..
