Coming into their sixth game of the season the ducks had not one player on the injury report and had a very healthy team. Well that changed in the first half in Pullman, first down was Kenjon Barner who took a huge hit returning a kick off and was on the ground for quite some time. His parents made their way down onto the field to see if he was okay. After sometime Barner came to his feet on his own power and was helped into the Ambulance and was taken to the hospital where he stayed over night. Next was Darron Thomas who went out in the second quarter with a right shoulder injury. Thomas went back to the locker room to get it checked out, later on he came back onto the field but never returned. He said that he could have came back, but he decided to rest it instead.Replacing Thomas was Senior Nate Costa who was fighting for the starting spot to start the season. Costa looked great against the Cougars throwing 13 for 15 for 151 yards and a TD, Costa also ran the ball 8 times for 84 yards and a TD.
LaMichael James continued his Heisman Trophy run on Saturday having another solid game, carrying the ball 25 times for 136 yards and 2 Td’s, also catching 2 passes for 87 yards, one of which was an 84 yard TD pass from Thomas. On the Receiving end Jeff Maehl had another good game catching 10 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
For Washington State Jeff Tuel a sophomore Quarterback looked very good against a top ranked defense of the Ducks, throwing for 245 yards and a Touchdown. For a young QB i think Tuel should have some success down the road. Towards the end of the game the ducks defense just ended up being too much for him.
The Ducks have moved up to the #2 spot in the country after Alabama fell to South Carolina yesterday. Oregon has a bye week next week and looks to rest their 2 injured players and they both should be back before their Thursday Night game at Autzen Stadium against UCLA on National TV. UCLA is coming off a big loss to Cal.
