Two challenges facing me this week to see the Bucs game. First, I’m on vacation. That meant I had to find a sports bar carrying the game. Second, I have a 6-month-old. That meant I could only stay at the sports bar for 3 quarters before he was ready to leave.
So that left me watching the 4th quarter comeback on my iPhone. Have you tried this? It’s not the best. Adding to the crummy picture, the game itself is about two minutes behind real-time, and the audio was at least a minute behind that. I ended up getting a text from a friend about the win before seeing it, talk about anti-climatic.
The worst part. I couldn’t even celebrate loudly, because the baby was asleep. Oh well… on to the game.
Did the Bucs win this game or did the Bengals “throw it away”?
Maybe a little of both.
Carson Palmer clearly cost the Bengals the game toward the end, but the Bucs had made plenty of mistakes. Mike Williams fumbles on the 5, Michael Spurlock fumbles a kickoff, Freeman throws a pick after a big Earnest Graham run.
The end of the game for the Bengals is just terrible game management on the QB’s and Coach’s part. Why don’t the Bengals run the ball on 3rd-and-long and run the clock to the two minute warning? How does Marvin Lewis continue to stay as the head coach? No wonder my Bengals-fan-friends hate life.
Josh Freeman showed once again, that he is becoming a clutch quarterback. Already, he has three 4th quarter comeback drives. He also brought the Bucs back last year against the Dolphins and the Falcons only to watch the defense blow it. He again looks like the franchise quarterback that Bucs fans have been waiting for.
After hearing for the past two weeks, we’d see more of LeGarrette Blount and Kareem Huggins they had five carries combined and the one goalline carry went to Graham. Arrelious Benn did finally see the field and had two catches, including a nice 18 yard grab in traffic.
Josh Freeman: Read the above paragraph
Mike Williams: This guy is shaping up to be the steal of the draft.
Cody Grimm:I said in my preview piece that he might be a liabilty with the Bengals passing so much. Turns out, Grimm just goes out and takes a Carson Palmer pass to the house.
Jeff Faine:Coach Morris says Faine has a quad injury and will miss a few weeks.
Cadillac Williams: Just continues to struggle. 11 carries, 33 yards. The only way he’s worse is if he’s on your fantasy team (and he’s on mine).
The Pass Defense: It’s weird to criticize the pass defense when they had 3 picks… but the secondary was helped out by a receiving core that had a serious case of the dropsies. And TO was WIDE open on that TD.
The Defensive Line: Cedric Benson ran all over the Bucs, averaging 6.5 yards a carry. No sacks, and only 3 hits on Carson Palmer.
Turnovers: Just too many fumbles. Need to take better care of the ball.
Next week the Bucs take on the Saints at home… I’ll have a preview on Friday.
