VIKINGS TAKE ON JETS AS THE SOAP OPERA CONTINUES

Tonight a chaotic week will climax when the Minnesota Vikings take the field against the New York Jets. The Vikings(1-2) have struggled through the early part of the season, while the Jets(3-1) have looked a little stronger every week. Minnesota went out and brought Randy Moss back to the team last week. Normally that would be the leading story going in to the game, with Moss not only trying to help his original team get back in the championship race, but also taking on his archnemesis, Darrelle Revis. Of course, when Brett Favre is your quarterback, drama is always right around the corner.
I am only going to offer a few words about the current Favre controversy. It is being reported that earlier today, Brett apologized to his teammates for being a distraction and since the story broke he has been unwilling to issue a denial. Those two pieces of information seem to imply that there might be at least some truth to all of the allegations that are coming out in the media. That being said, it sure seems awfully convenient that this story, which revolves around events that would have happened approximately two years ago, breaks just days before Favre makes his return to New York. Hmmm.
As for the game, to quote one of the old school Monday Night Football announcers, Don Meredith, “it should be a dandy”. Moss and Revis will be going head to head for the second time this year, but while #84 might draw a lot of attention, the real key to the Vikings winning tonight is the play of the two lines. On offense, the line has got to give Favre time to throw as well as open up some holes for Adrian Peterson. AP has had an MVP season so far and look for him to hit Revis, Cromartie and the other defensive backs as he breaks in to the secondary tonight. On the other side of the ball, look for Jared Allen to have at least two sacks tonight. He has had two weeks to prepare and with a young QB like Mark Sanchez, Allen will be licking his chops. In addition to the d-line keeping pressure on Sanchez, the front seven of the Vikings needs to contain Ladainian Tomlinson. The former MVP has looked like his old self since coming to the Jets in the off-season. If Minnesota can keep him from breaking 10-15 yard gains, they should be in good shape.
The stars will be out on Monday Night Football. Favre, Moss, Tomlinson, Peterson, Allen, and Revis will all be looking to make big plays, but many times in a game like this, the biggest play comes from somebody else. Maybe receiver Greg Lewis or linebacker Chad Greenway will get their hands on the ball at an opportune time. This game was going to be a big game no matter what, but then during the last week, you throw in Randy Moss along with a contraversy involving Brett Favre and multiple females(kinda attractive ones too), the game becomes huge. This won’t be a low scoring game, look for lots of points, both on the scoreboard and in the ratings book.
