Wisco Recruiting Update

Not only is this a huge game right now for the Wisconsin Badgers, but it’s also a huge game for them as they are hosting several big-time recruits as they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes this Saturday at Camp Randall.

The Badgers have 13 commitments to date for the class of 2011, including several in-state guys.  Jake Keefer, Sam Arneson, Austin Maly, Eric Steffes, Derek Landisch and Jordan Frederick are all home-grown talents who will take their abilities to Madison next Fall.

Leading the recruits into Madison this weekend is an extremely talented trio of teammates from Florida.  Tight End Nick O’ Leary, OLB Curt Maggitt and QB Jacoby Brissett will be sporting Badger red this Saturday as the Badgers try to knock off the top-ranked Buckeyes.  O’ Leary is among the top tight ends in the nation.  At 6’4″ 230 pounds, O’ Leary is a 5-star recruit who has scheduled 3 official visits.  One happened recently at Alabama, one scheduled in November at LSU and this weekend in Madison.

Maggitt is a 6’3″ 220-pound outside linebacker with great speed and the ability to play sideline to sideline.  He’s a 4-star recruit with Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami and Wisconsin amongst his front-runners.  It’s rumored that Maggitt loves the idea of playing in the SEC so this may be the Badgers one chance to show Maggitt they can play with the top-ranked teams in the country.

Brissett is a 6’4″ 225 pound QB with great athletic abilities.  He is the only quarterback the Badgers have offered for the class of 2011, indicating they are going after the 3-star recruit with a lot of effort.  The Badgers are believed to be in his top 5 along with Florida State and North Carolina, among others.

Four other highly-touted recruits will be making their way to Madison this weekend as well.  Verbal commit Makington Dorleant will get a chance to see the team he’ll be suiting up for up close and personal.  The 5’11″ 170 pound cornerback/safety has great speed and chose Wisconsin over Florida State, Arizona, West Virginia, Maryland and Florida International.

Fullback Trayion Durham is among the top fullbacks in the country and he has Wisconsin as his front-runner.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Durham delivers his verbal commitment this weekend.  The 6’0″ 200 pound back also has offers from Cincinnati, Boston College and Louisville, among others.

Also in town will be offensive lineman Ray Ball.  Ball is a mammoth 6’7″ 325 pound 3-star recruit from Ohio.  Wisconsin may be considered the front-runner as he doesn’t have any other visits scheduled to date.  Other schools in the running include Michigan, UCLA and Indiana.

Rounding out the prospects visiting the capital this weekend is offensive lineman Josue Matais.  Matais checks in at 6’6″ 290 pounds.  The 3-star recruit from New Jersey is also considering North Carolina, Rutgers, Connecticut and South Carolina.

The Badgers have had a number of prospects visit the campus this year.  They just received another verbal from wide receiver Kenzel Doe.  The 5’8″ 170 athlete from North Carolina pulled out of a verbal to Oregon State and gave the Badgers his word.  Doe runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range.

Other recruits who have visited include Ohio WR A.J. Jordan who visited September 17th and is also considering Michigan.  The 4-star recruit is extremely talented and would be a great addition for Big Red.  Also from Ohio is DE Jesse Hayes and CB Darius Hillary.  Nebraska may be the front-runner for the 6’4″ 230 pound Hayes as he is taking his second visit to Cornhusker country soon.  But Wisconsin and Oregon are not far behind.  Hillary is a 3-star recruit with offers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Stanford and West Virginia.

If the Badgers can pull the upset on Saturday I wouldn’t be too shocked if they got some verbals from some of these talented youngsters.  A very important weekend in Madison for the football program lurks.
