My Thoughts On Week 5 In The NFL

Since the Seahawks had a bye I had the opportunity to focus on all the other games going on around the league. One game that caught my eye right away were the Indianapolis Colts coming off a disapointing loss to Jacksonville at the last second in Week 4 hosting the last undefeated team in the league the surprising Kansas City Cheifs.
What a game it turned out to be! These two teams were in a absolute dogfight the entire game with the only touchdown coming late in the fourth to put the game away as the Colts improved to 3 – 2 with a 19 – 9 victory over the Cheifs. The Colts however took a hit in the third quarter when starting running back Joseph Addai went down with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. At this time it is unknown the significance of his injury. With the Colts already hurting at running back as backup Donald Brown is also out with an injury they turned to another backup Mike Hart who finished the game with 11 carries for 50 yards and the game’s only touchdown with 4:02 left in the fourth. With the loss the Cheifs fall to 3 – 1 and travel to Houston next week in a tough game against the Texans.
Another game I was anxious to watch were the surprising Houston Texans facing a tough New York Giants team for a couple reasons. I wanted to find how good the Texans actually were, and finally I wanted to see how the Giants would play after harassing the Chicago Bears last week with 9 sacks in a 17 – 3 win.
The Texans came into this game 3 – 1 with their only loss coming in week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys 27 – 13. However they were no match for the New York Giants who came into the game at 2 – 2. Giants QB Eli Manning finshed the game 27-42 for 297 yards and 3 TDs and WR Hakeem Nicks finshed with 12 catches for 130 yards abnd 2 TDs as the Giants led from the start and defeated the Texans 34 – 10. With the win the Giants improve to 3 – 2 on the year and host the Detroit Lions in week 6 who got their first win this week as they demolished the St.Louis Rams 44 – 6. With the loss the Texans fall to 3 – 2 on the year and host the Kansas City Chiefs in what looks like to be an exciting game.
Another game I weas anxious to watch this week was Donovan McNabb and the Wasington Redskins hosting Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. I was excited to watch this game because like Texans I wanted to see how good the Packers actually were after a slim two point victory last week at Lambeau Field against the Detroit Lions.
In this game the Packers dominated the Redskins in the first half outgaining them in total yards 227 – 148 and leading 10 – 3. However the Packers simply fell apart in the second half and lost to the Redskins 16 – 13 in overtime. Redskins defensive backs DeAngelo Hall and LaRon Landry with simply everywhere in this game. Landry finished the game with 13 tackles, and a key interception that ignited the game winning drive in OT, and Hall finished the game with 12 tackles. On the offensive side Donovan McNabb and reciever Santana Moss had good games. McNabb finshed the game 26 – 49 for 357 yards 1 Touchdown and 1 Interception, and Moss had 7 receptions for 118 yards. With the win the Redskins improve to 3 – 2 and have a tough game next week against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night.
This was a tough loss for the Packers. Enterting the final quarter of play they were on top 13 – 3, but couldn’t hold onto the lead. They had a chance to win it with one second left in the fourth but kicker Mason Crosby missed a feild goal from 53 yards. Even with the loss Aaron Rodgers and running back Brandon Jackson had strong games. Rodgers finished the game 27 – 46 for 293 yards with a touchdown and an Interception. And Jackson carried the ball 10 times for 115 yards. With the loss the Packers fall to 3 – 2 and face the Miami Dolphins next week in week 6.
Overall this week had alot of extremely close games and alot of surprises. Some of the surprises were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers improving to 3 – 1 with a come from behind victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Oakland Raider’s shocking the San Deigo Chargers 34 – 28 depite Charger’s QB Phillip Rivers throwing for 431 yards and WR Malcom Floyd having 8 catches for 213 yards. And finally the Arizona Cardinals surprisingly defeating the defending Supel Champions New Orleans Saints with their defense 30 – 20. Let’s just hope we get some more good game’s next week
