2010 NLCS- Philadelphia vs San Francisco
Heading into postseason play, people questioned the Yankees starting rotation. After a three game sweep over the Twins, and impressive pitching performances from Phil Hughes and Andy Pettite, the critics have been silenced temporarily. It was the ace Sabathia that didn’t pitch great. Pettite didn’t look affected by any nagging injuries in Game 2. Pettite went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out four. In Game 3, Hughes pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out six.
For the first time in team history, Texas is playing in the ALCS after winning a five game barnburner against Tampa Bay. It was the first time in MLB history that the road team won every game of the series. Now it’s time for the Rangers to exact some revenge against New York. Both squads met three times previously in the ALDS in the 1990’s. (1996,1998,1999) New York won on all three occasions.
Once again, Cliff Lee pitched phenomenally. Lee won both Game 1 and Game 5 against Tampa Bay. In eight career starts against New York (including postseason), Lee is 4-0 with a 1.16 ERA. The most memorable Yankees performance he had was that 6-hitter he threw last year in Game 1 of last year’s World Series. Lee is scheduled to pitch Game 3, and a possible Game 7.
3 Ways the Yankees Win the Series…..
3 Ways the Rangers Win the Series…..
PREDICTION- Yankees in 6
This is a fascinating matchup. I think this series comes down to starting pitching. Both staffs have top aces in Sabathia and Lee. When it comes to the rest of the staff, the Yankees have more experience. When you look at the bullpens, you would think that New York has the advantage. Maybe not. Against the Rangers in 2010, Rivera is 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA. He’s given up two game-winners against Texas this season. But who am I kidding, it’s the postseason now. I’ll take New York in this series because of the experience factor. I’m not ready to count out the veterans like A-Rod, Jeter, Berkman, Rivera, Posada, Pettite and Cano just yet.
