There’s no one bigger than CC Sabathia and the Yankees are hoping that he will be large and in charge Friday night in Texas in the ALCS opener. I don’t want to say that they *need* this game, but they can surely use the win.
The Rangers will have to bite the bullet and send C.J. Wilson to the mound to face the Bombers’ big man, since the Rays took them to five games. Texas ace Cliff Lee will take the mound on Monday against Andy Pettitte in Game 3. That’s a huge bonus for the Yankees.
Wilson had an awesome start against the Rays, allowing just two hits in 6 1/3 innings, but he was less than stellar against the Yankees this year, with a 5.65 ERA in three starts.
CC vs. C.J. – The Yankees should win this battle. The fact that Lee is not available to start the series is a plus for the Bombers for more reasons than one. A good game on Friday and they start to build momentum for Game 2 and the games in the Bronx. New York is also coming off a nice and much-needed rest this week after dispensing with the Twins on Saturday night. Things look good for the Yankees.
A-Rod and Teixeira have lots of history in Texas, and should hear the fans’ “appreciation,” but both are competitors and at least it shouldn’t get to Tex’s head. What goes on in A-Rod’s remains a mystery.
It should definitely make for a good matchup, but one that is definitely winnable for the Yankees. They certainly need to take at least one of the games in Arlington to run the table heading into the Bronx.
The Rangers have shown they’re a very good team, especially by getting past Tampa in the first round. It won’t be easy, but if the Bombers’ bullpen holds (again the rest was vital for them, too!) the Yankees should return to the World Series. The definitely have the “big” edge in Game 1.
I didn’t ace them, but I didn’t do too terrbily:
CORRECT Team/WRONG Number of Games = Yankees beat the Twins in 4
WRONG Team/CORRECT Number of Games = Rays beat the Rangers in 5
CORRECT x 2 Team and Games = Phillies beat the Reds in 3
CORRECT x 2 Team and Games = Giants beat the Braves in 4
Yankees beat the Rays (now Rangers) in 6, but it will be a knock-down drag out fight
Whichever team comes out of the American League will win the World Series. Period.
Giants beat the Phillies in 6
Yankees beat the Giants in 6
