Gaborik and Drury to Miss Weeks After Injuries in Home Opener

The season is not off to a good start for the black and Blueshirts who lost their second straight game and their captain and top sniper.
Captain Chris Drury is expected to miss six weeks with a different break to the same troublesome injured finger while Marian Gaborik is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder.
Drury returned to the lineup for the home opener against the Maple Leafs sooner than expected after breaking his finger last month during training camp. Perhaps a premature return.
After an awkward collision into the boards with teammate Michal Rosival in the second period, Drury headed to the locker room and did not return.
Drury replaced Erik Christensen, who injured his leg in Monday’s game, to center the top line of Frolov and Gaborik.
Gaborik also left the second period with what appeared to be an injured shoulder after a Colby Armstrong hit which resulted in a boarding call . He did not play the rest of the game.
Although Gaborik has been quiet on the goal front to start the season (only two assists thus far), he is the key to their success. Gaborik led the team with 42 goals and 86 points last season.
The team also started the season without center Vinny Prospal, another offensive contributor (knee injury), and will likely forge on without him for the remainder of the year.
The Rangers top line is quickly thinning. The youngsters (Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Stepan) are going to be heavily leaned on in the coming weeks.
Christensen should return by early next week.
Prospal will be out indefinitely.
