Chiefs Look to Get Back on Track

The Kansas City Chiefs head to Texas for a match up where both offenses have been struggling of late to get the fire power in full force. The Texans are coming off a brutal loss to the New York Giants, where offensively they were very quiet and unproductive. The ground game that burst onto the season in the first few weeks of the season seems to have sputtered for the Texans and doesn’t appear to be changing this Sunday against a Chief run defense rankingĀ  6th.

The Chiefs on the other hand are hoping that their 3rd ranked rushing attack will allow them to keep them in the game, the same way it did in Indianapolis last week. The Chiefs NEED to look to their quarterback Matt Cassel if they want to steal an away victory this Sunday. Cassel ‘s play thus far into the season as been below average and below expectation. One thing the Texans do well is either rack up a bunch of yards, or give up a huge amount. For the Chiefs, they are hoping it is the latter.

Dwayne Bowe dropped a huge would be touchdown last week that would have put the Chiefs ahead late, but due to lack of conversation, and possibly shock that Cassel actually got him the ball, the Chiefs came up lame. Bowe is going to be looking to bounce back in a big way this Sunday against a shaky Texan defensive backfield. Another receiver who will be looking to get back into the swing of things is Pro Bowl wide out Andre Johnson who is still nursing an ankle injury, but is expected to be an every down player on Sunday.

Special Teams could prove to be a huge facet of the game on Sunday, as both teams have the play makers to break a game wide open. Jacoby Ford, Dexter McCluster, and Javier Arenas are young guys making their way onto the scene and each could have a huge role…good or bad.

The Chiefs defense will be put to the test with Matt Schaub and the Texan offense. Head Coach Gary Kubiak is very familiar with the Chiefs after being the offensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos for close to a decade under Mike Shanahan. Expecting Johnson is close to 100% the weapons of Steve Slaton, Kevin Walter, Owen Daniels, and Johnson put a lot of pressure on the Chief secondary which ranks 25th in the league. Corner back Brandon Flowers has been as close to a shut down corner as one could ask for leading the team in picks and supporting the run. The linebackers are going to have to stuff the Texan rushing attack and make Schaub beat them over the top, which he could very well do. But if the Chiefs play another sound game like they did last week against Peyton, then I like the Chiefs chances. I thought last week the Chiefs would steal a victory, but this week I am SURE OF IT. I truly believe KC will pull out a W. 24-21 Chiefs. Boom!
