Hoosiers Homecoming Victory

The Indiana Hoosiers celebrated their homecoming weekend with a win against the Arkansas State Red Wolves 36-34. Senior quarterback, Ben Chappell, led his team to victory by throwing for three touchdowns in the second half.
In the first half, Arkansas State’s quarterback, Ryan Aplin scored two touchdowns. Indiana’s Mitch Ewald kicked a 20-yard field goal followed by a 34-yard field goal to put the Hoosiers on the board. Indiana’s receiver, Tandon Doss caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Chappell with 40 seconds left before the half. The Hoosiers tried to tie the game but their two-point conversion attempt failed.
Trailing by two points going into the second half, Chappell threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver, Terrance Turner. The Hoosiers defense silenced the Red Wolves in the third quarter, but allowed them to score 20 points in the fourth.
The fourth quarter was full of field goals and touchdowns; both teams kept scoring. The game came down to who’s offense was better because clearly, both teams have weak defensive lines.
Ewald started the fourth by kicking a 46-yard field goal; his third of the game. Arkansas State responded with a touchdown by running back, Sirgregory Thornton, but failed their attempt at a two-point conversion after the play. After both teams were unable to successfully complete two-point conversions, they both opted to kick the pigskin for the extra point. Indiana’s tight end, Max Dedmond caught a 16-yard touchdown pass. Arkansas State’s receiver, Dwayne Frampton turned around and scored a touchdown for the Red Wolves. The Hoosiers scored their final points of the game with 7:46. Receiver, Damarlo Belcher caught a 65-yard pass from Chappell. With 47 seconds left in the game, the Red Wolves Thornton caught a 22-yard pass from Aplin, to score a touchdown, but it was not enough for the Red Wolves to beat the Hoosiers.
Chappell threw for 382 yards and had four touchdown passes. After his stellar performance, the Hoosiers are now 4-2. They have beaten all four of their non-conference opponents. Today’s game also broke a two game losing streak. Indiana will take the field again in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday, October 23, 2010.
Although their win was not pretty, I can guarantee Bloomington is booming tonight.
