This is one of the hardest blogs I have written as a Dallas Cowboy blogger. It is like the blog you write when your team just got eliminated from the playoffs.
Yesterday we saw the Dallas Cowboys lose 24-21 to the Minnesota Vikings. It was a must win game for both teams and well I will adamantly say that I think the Cowboys were the better team, they did not win and it is all about winning. This years Cowboys squad is not hanging out with winners.
I said in my pre-game blog that in order for the Cowboys to win, the defence would have to step up and get the win for the Cowboys; we all know that did not happen. brutal!!!!!
We saw two different Cowboy teams yesterday, one a 1st half team that was moving the ball both on the ground and in the air effectively to go into half time up 14-7. Cowboys held onto time of possession and nothing was better to see an emotional Tony Romo hugging his receivers/team mates after the scores.
Than comes the 2nd half, a different Cowboy team, one we so far this season are used to. Minnesota starts off the 2nd half with a 95 yard kick off return for a TD and the Cowboys basically self destruct. Turnovers, more penalties and well they did produce one TD to tie the game at 21; it was all for naught when another Romo interception turned into the winning field goal for the Vikings. 2 Romo INT’s = 10 Viking points.
Reasons for the loss:
–Another 11 Cowboy penalties was costly.
–costly turnovers = costly points against.
–special teams / do the Cowboys even have a special teams coach?
–running game was all in all in-effective albeit the Cowboys did run the ball more than the past games but just not effectively this Sunday.
Where and or who is the captain of the Dallas Cowboys? Some will say it is the quarterback, well if that is the case, where is Tony Romo and when is he going to step to the plate. Great Cowboy captain in Troy Aikman said it perfectly when there was little time on the clock, you would usually see a great QB talking with his receivers, hanging out with them on the sidelines, Romo was not even close to his offensive receivers. Clearly Romo is not a captain but if he is to mastermind the offence than he has best captain the offence or maybe it is time for the Cowboys to find a new captain.
TEAM, it takes a TEAM effort to win football games and so far this year we have not seen anything remotely close to the Cowboys playing as a team which is hence a reason to see the 1-4 start.
?’s to ask now:
–are the Cowboys as talented as they expected and or everyone else expected them to be?.
–what do we do now with Wade Phillips? is it time for him to go and or do we try to salvage something out of this season and re-look at him and the rest of the coaching staff and team for that matter once the season ends.
Sorry to be so negative folks but the Dallas lovers out there will agree this is not going well in Dallas Nation and the Dallas haters out there will love me.
As always comments, questions, concerns…..
A week tonight the New York ‘football’ Giants travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. Hey there is always baseball in Texas right now…..
