Jets Edge Broncos

Late in the game….pass interference penalty that leads to a back-breaking touchdown…a failed comback bid.

Funny…that USED to be the Jets’ story.  However, Rex Ryan’s Jets have been finding ways to win instead of continually snatching Defeat from Victory’s jaws.

Santonio Holmes drew a pass interference penalty with under two minutes to go and LaDainian Tomlinson punched the second of his two touchdowns to seal the 24-20 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Holmes’s heroics made up for a horrendous fumble that he coughed up earlier in the game.  With room to run on either side, he inexplicably drove himself directly into teammate Braylon Edwards while the latter was throwing a downfield block.  The ball squirted loose as a result of the collision, ending the drive.

Just as improbable is Tomlinson’s incredible comeback this season.  The 31 year, who was expected to play merely a complementary role, has instead flashed the form that made the league’s MVP at one point.  Through six games this season, he now has 490 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez shook off his first interception of the year and performed admirably well the rest of the way.  He has developed a stronger arm than many gave him credit for and his passes have been crisp and on target.  He is as responsible as anyone for New York’s 5-1 start.

Can you name the Jets’ best cornerback currently?  If you said Antonio Cromartie, you would be correct.  Cromartie, not Darrelle Revis, has been the guy that opposing quarterbacks are shying away from.  As a matter of fact, Denver quarterback Kyle Orton threw eight times towards the obscenely well-paid Revis and connected on four of them.

The Jets go on a well-deserved bye this week and will return against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.
