Stamps Come Up Big

It’s been a back and forth month for the Calgary Stampeders. Calgary seemingly had control of the West division and first round bye. Then the wheels fell off a little bit with losses in three of their last four games. The Saskatchewan Roughriders had closed the gap to a game in the standings and were now ready to host the Stampeders at Mosaic Field. Quite possibly the toughest place to win on the road.

It sure didn’t start well for the Stamps as their secondary was torched early by the Riders air attack and Calgary found themselves down 14-0 and Mosaic was rocking. Unlike the past few weeks the Stampeders finally bore down and showed why they may be the best team in the CFL.

Joffrey Reynolds lead the way picking up his team by the boot straps.Joffrey put together a big game with 171 combined yards and two touchdowns. The Calgary Stampeders as a team rushed the ball for 221 yards and maintained the pace of the game.

Henry Burris also facing criticism stepped his game up and went 19/26 for 254 yards with 1 TD and only 1 INT as a blemish on his day. Henry seemingly always has trouble playing the Roughriders in his old stomping ground and really led the charge and showed his leadership skills all day.

The final nail in the coffin for Saskatchewan came in the fourth quarter with the Stamps up by 5 in the fourth quarter when Milt Collins came on a blind side blitz and stripped Riders QB Darian Durant. The ball popped right to DT Cory Mace who accompanied by a convoy of blockers chugged 60 yards for the decisive score in the game.

The Calgary Stampeders stepped up in all facets of their game and gutted out a quality 34-26 win which places the Stampeders magic number to clinch the West at one.

Next up for the Stampeders are the BC Lions Friday night at McMahon Stadium.

Have a good one!
