Dominance. Probably all that needs to be said about Game 3 of the ALCS in New York. Cliff Lee was just that damn good. Did we mention he is now 7-0 in the post season with an ERA in those games at 1.31. In Game 3, Lee was once again brilliant with the tag line of 8IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB and 13 K’s in the Bronx. Winning is one thing, doing it in Broadway style in New York is another. Look for the Yankees to want some revenge tonight in game 4
Josh Hamilton got things rolling in the first inning with a 2 run homer which was really Andy Pettitte’s only mistake all game. Don’t kid yourself, Pettitte pitched damn well last night, he just made one bad pitch, which Lee didn’t. No one can put the loss on Pettitte with that performance last night. He pitched well enough to give the Yankees a chance to win, which he has constantly done over many playoff appearances. The Yankees bats were just no match for Lee who had them guessing and whiffing all night. Combined with Neftali Feliz’s 9th inning workout, the Yankees struck out a grand total of 15 times.
As for that wacky ninth inning last night, it was hard to describe and watch. I have never seen a Yankee’s team fall apart last night in the 9th at home in quite some time. Just the hits they were giving up and stuff that kept going the Rangers way should be forgotten about. The scoreline last night was not indicative of the actual play of the game. The Yankees fans must do like the players will do, and forget that 9th inning ever happened. The fans must also pray for the Yankees bats to come alive during game 4 to avoid going down 3-1.
- Aside from that improbable 5 run 8th inning in Game 1, the Yankees have only scored 3 total runs in the other 26 innings of play of the ALCS.
- Texas has outscored the Yankees 20-7 in the first 3 games of this series, including 5-0 combined in the first inning.
- It was Josh Hamiltons first home run in Yankee Stadium, new or old, not counting the HR derby
SERIES: Texas Leads Series 2-1
