Indiana Takes On Illinois

The Indiana Hoosiers will take the field in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday, October 23, 2010 against the Fighting Illini. The Hoosiers are coming off a win at home going into this Big Ten game.
Despite being the underdog, if Quarterback Ben Chappell plays well, the Hoosiers have a fair shot at beating the Fighting Illini. Indiana has been averaging over 34 points per game. Their offense as a team is ranked fifth in passing. Individually, Chappell is ranked fourth in passing yards and fifth in completions. The Hoosiers know how to score but the real question is will they be able to block Illinois from running the ball for touchdown after touchdown?
Indiana’s defense is their weak point this season. Their secondary players lack the experience needed to play against seasoned Big Ten quarterbacks. The Hoosiers have allowed 137 points to be scored against them in the past six games. That is an average of 22.8 points scored by the opposing team per game. Indiana’s defense needs to step up and block the ball in order for them to win.
This game is especially important to win for the Hoosiers because it would give Coach Bill Lynch, now in his 18th season as head coach, his 100th career victory as the head coach of Indiana.
The Hoosiers beat the Fighting Illini 27-14 at home last year. Illinois comes into the game 3-3 and Indiana has a record of 4-2. The Hoosiers hope to have a 5-2 record by Saturday night.
