Notre Dame Football: Wednesday Links

The injury bug has hit the Irish hard in the last few weeks…Today, we have good news and bad news on that front…

First, the good. Armando Allen is good to go for the Navy game. – chicagobreakingsports.com  [1]

Although on the field, Allen was not part of the offense against Western Michigan. It’s a real shame too. If this guy wasn’t made out of papier mache and, as a consequence, used a little more, he’d have a shot at being a top 20 running back in the county, at least. He’s still not practicing at full speed, so I wouldn’t expect Armando to get his normal 10-12 carries on Saturday.

Theo Riddick will miss the Navy game, Floyd a game time choice - AP   [2]

This is a bigger blow to the passing game then the Rudolph injury. Riddick has become Crist’s second option, even the go – to guy in some packages. However,  the Floyd injury is even more concerning. Even if he does play, Notre Dame is looking at most of the skill offense being hobbled. Can they beat Navy without Floyd, Riddick, Rudolph, and Allen not at full strength? I don’t know.

Remember, Duval Kumara holds a freshman receiving record. Sure, he’s been generally awful since then, but at least he has some success on his resume….. Saturday’s looking more and more like a job for Cierre Wood isn’t it?…and more and more like a game the Irish could loose 21 – 14.

This isn’t the Navy of four years ago and beyond anymore – AP [4]

The Irish have had trouble with the triple option before and very well could have trouble with it again. It’s Wednesday and I still have no idea who I’ll pick in the late Friday night/ Saturday morning column.

Navy seniors have had unheard of success against Irish – Washington Examiner [5]

This day in Irish History – 1990

Lou Holtz does it again, orchestrating his second upset of the mighty Miami Hurricanes at Notre Dame Stadium in three years. This time, his sixth-ranked Irish pound the second ranked Hurricanes 29-20 as Craig Hentrich boots a school-record five field goals.

Enjoy Wednesday. 3 days until Navy
