Rumor: Knicks Still Involved in Carmelo Talks

From ESPN.com:

The New York Knicks [1] have made significant progress in recent days in their efforts to acquire Carmelo Anthony [2] from the Denver Nuggets [3], a source told ESPN.com Tuesday….. The offers the Knicks have proposed have always centered around packages including Anthony Randolph [4], the expiring contract of Eddy Curry [5] and a first-round draft pick they would acquire from a third team, and New York has softened its stance on including forward Danilo Gallinari [6] in a trade.

The most recent obstacle, according to the source, was for the Knicks to use one of those assets, likely Randolph or Gallinari, to acquire a player from a third team that the Nuggets value more highly than either of the Knicks forwards. The source said that obstacle can now be overcome, with the Knicks confident they can get their hands on a player the Nuggets would prefer.

It still seams as if the Knicks don’t have enough right now to acquire the all – star, however it may hinge on the Nuggets increasing fears of being “Lebroned.” How long do the Nuggets want to wait to trade this guy? If the assumption is that he will be traded, which right now it appears to be, then Denver would be best advised to pull the trigger within the next week. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that, with each passing game, Anthony’s value goes down.   If Denver is worried about being shafted next summer, wouldn’t they be just as concerned about being shafted in any trade that they feel they have to make?

As far as trading Danilo Galinari? I still do it without much thought. I can’t believe there was even a “stance” that had to be ”softened.” You’re not getting a top 5 NBA talent for a hurt (and terrible) Eddy Curry and a word book by Walt Clyde….This is Carmelo Anthony. You drive Galinari to the airport if you have to…

If the report has anything to it, Look for it to move incredibly quickly over the next week.
