BCS or Bust

With three teams from non-AQ conferences currently in the top-10 in the BCS polls, is it possible for any of these teams to make it into the national championship? Well if you are a supporter of teams such as the University of Oregon, Oklahoma, or Auburn then most likely you don’t think that this can be achieved. For years the BCS has tried to limit non-AQ’s from reaching its majestic BCS bowl games, well now it’s time for a change. Boise State, TCU, as well as the University of Utah are trying to become the first teams ever to get a spot in the BCS national championship game.
Some people believe that there are more deserving teams that should make it to the national championship, rather than these three teams. Does a one-loss Alabama team or a one-loss Nebraska team deserve to make it over an undefeated Boise State team? I don’t think so. The most common excuse that I hear from fans of the big 6 conferences is that Boise State, TCU, and Utah do not play anyone within their conference schedule. All I can say is that teams like Oregon do not play competitive games outside of their conference games. This year the second ranked team in the country played New Mexico, Portland State, and Tennessee, not the best non-conference schedule. So it’s unfair to say that smaller schools, who do play tough out of conference games, don’t deserve the right to play in a BCS bowl game.
When a team from a non-AQ conference is allowed to play in the national championship, then the actual BCS system will be proven to be a success. Until then, it will just be another topic that Congress will have to mull over whether it is unconstitutional or not. This year is the year of the non-AQ team. It’s now just up to the BCS to decide whether or not one of teams will actually be allowed to show the nation how the small schools really do play.
