Two weeks ago Stanford escaped with a last second victory versus USC with the aid 30-yard Nate Whitaker field goal which allowed the Cardinal to enter their bye week with a win as opposed to a two game losing streak.
One could argue that this week’s opponent equates to its second consecutive bye week, as Stanford faces the hapless, the woeful, the pathetic Cougars of Washington State.
I really do not know what to write here to make this game appear interesting because Wazzu has not been relevant as a football program since 2003 when it beat Texas in the Holiday Bowl. 2003 also happens to be the last time Wazzu finished a season above .500.
To better help put this into perspective, here are some examples to show long it has been since Wazzu was relevant as a football program:
- Hey Ya! by Outkast was the most popular song
- Johnny Depp introduced the world to Captain Jack Sparrow
- Shaquille O’Neal was still a teammate of Kobe Bryant’s
Since 2008, Wazzu is a combined 3 – 28 and has lost 13 straight Pac-10 games. This year does not appear to be the year that Wazzu turns it around as they rank towards the very bottom of Division I football in rushing yards, points for and points against.
This game will be a yawner. Easy win for the Cardinal. 41-10.
Stanford travels to Seattle next week.
