Chiefs Look to Snap 2-Game Skid

The Chiefs started 3-0…they are now 3-2 after a couple tough losses…STILL 1st in the AFC West…The Chiefs believe it or not have the chance to extend that game and half lead on the rest of the pack. The Broncos and Raiders will duke it out come Sunday and a much battered and unfocused Charger team take on the mighty New England Patriots. The Chiefs are sitting very pretty as long as they take care of business against a bad football team in Jacksonville.

The Jags come off a short week where their starting and back up quarterback look like they wont go, which leaves….Todd Bouman…Maurice Jones-Drew did not have a good game last week under the bright lights, but this kid can break one at any moment. The Titans defense on Monday Night shutdown the Jags O, if the Chiefs can limit Jones-Drew to under 100 yards on the ground, then the Chiefs will pick up a pretty big win at the New Arrowhead.

The Chiefs need to wear down this Jacksonville defense by pounding the ball up in the middle, right between the tackles.Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones have become a dynamic 1-2 punch like many predicted. Charles averaging 6.3 yards a carry with Jones at an efficient 4.3. By getting the ground game going that will bring the Jag defense to stack the box, leaving one-on-0ne coverage for the resurgent Dwayne Bowe.

The Chief defense and Romeo Crennel will be looking to bounce back oin a big way after collapsing against the Texans last week. Expect a lot of blitzes to rush Bouman and snag a few takeaways. Expect the ball hawk Brandon Flowers to get his hands on the ball in pass breakups and/or picks.

The Chief defense got some good news this week as defensive end Tyson Jackson looks like he will be able to go after suffering that nagging knee injury, but on a limited basis. The team wants to take the proper precautions in hopes of not re-aggravating his knee. Derrick Johnson, the leader on tackles for the Chiefs as well, as an emotional leader, will be called on to handle the duties of Jones-Drew. Johnson will not only have to keep him from rushing for 100 yards, but making sure he doesn’t slip out of the backfield for a huge catch and run.

Rookie safety Eric Berry along with the linebackers will also have to make sure that tight end Mercedes Lewis doesn’t get free on the field. Bouman will be looking for a safety blanket in Lewis, but the Chief defense needs to make sure they bump him off the line and keep him off his route and uncomfortable. In doing so Bouman will have to hold the ball giving the D line more time for a sack lunch.

The Chiefs need to take care of business, if Cassel can manage this game with no turnovers, the Chiefs will be sitting quite comfortably atop the AFC West with a 4-2 record. As I have said the two weeks I think the Chiefs will win, I even guaranteed last week, but I was counting on a defensive collapse. With that said, I am going Chiefs again. 27-10
