Rangers’ Fighting Bruins in Original Six Matchup

The Rangers and Bruins are finally displaying something they both desperately lacked last season: intensity.

Some stars may be missing on both benches (Marc Savard, Marco Sturm, Marian Gaborik, Chris Drury) but the energy certainly isn’t.

The Rangers are up 3-1 after the first period in Beantown. Whenever these two Original Six rivals face off in Boston, it’s sure to be a tight match and tonight is looking no different so far.

The Blueshirts came out banging with 12 hits, while the Bruins had 17.

Bruins’ D-man Mark Stuart threw a clean shoulder hit on Ruslan Fedotenko that leveled him to the ice. Linemate Sean Avery reeling for revenge, came swinging and dropped the gloves which resulted in a 2-minute instigator, 5-for fighting and a 10-minute game misconduct.

Sticking up for a teammate is always welcomed but Avery is displaying some bad habits again picking the wrong moment to shall we say go off the handle.

After just one period, the Rangers generated 33 minutes worth of penalties which included three fights.

Artem Anisimov and Alexander Frolov scored for the Rangers to jump to a quick two goal lead. Zdeno Chara got the Bruins on the board with seconds left in the period during a 5 on 3 powerplay.

Early in the second period, Marc Staal grabbed the loose puck out of the penalty box and rushed down the ice to make it 3-1.

Whoever can outlive, outlast, outplay will be the Survivor.
