It was a long summer, wasn’t it? In fact, it kind of felt like another season, except without any games. But now, here we are, only a day away from another Knick season and hours away from an outstanding opening night double header on TNT.
For the record, I like Miami and Los Angeles. Watch closely, the Miami game will be a rare event. It will be one of the few close games the Heat will play all season. As I wrote many times this summer, I think the Heat will win multiple championships over the next five seasons. However, I don’t think that championship will come this year. The new “big 3″ will rock the regular season and fall just short in the Eastern Conference Finals to another Florida club, the Orlando Magic.
Now, with one night left in the Knick off season, here are some final off season links…
Imagine this scenario. Even the most devoted of my Knick fan friends questioned this draft selection in June. Andy Katz didn’t even have Fields on his “big board.” (the first time that had ever happened by the way.) But Fields has been the most impressive ”fringe Knick” since he joined the orange and blue. He was the star of summer league and elevated his performance when the “real players” stepped on the court during the preseason.
Still, I find this move a tad curious. Even though Fields has been impressive, is putting him in the opening night lineup being a little too optimistic about Fields? As we’ve seen from the start, Fields thrives on doubt. But their is a difference between starting Fields and making him part of the regular rotation…..
I’m not sure D’Antoni isn’t trying to be too cute with this move.
However, here’s a rookie move that I love…
Blog – favorite Timofey Mozgov will start! – Newsday(sorry, I try not to give Newsday links because you need to be a subscriber to read past the 50th word , but this move warranted it.)
Unlike the Fields move, I think this was the only option. He’s the best center on the team. Mozgov showed a scrap and ferocity in the preseason that is very refreshing to see from a European import. Soft he is not. Look for Mozgov to struggle going up against the better true centers in the league, but hold his own against most others in the league.
Thoughts on Fields? Mozgov? Other things? Leave a comment…..Enjoy the games tonight!
