The Indiana Hoosiers host the Northwestern Wildcats Saturday October 30, 2010. Two brand new game captains, Darius Johnson and Jeff Thomas, will join team captains Ben Chappell and Tyler Replogle in leading the Hoosiers on the field this week.
Johnson is a junior defensive end who is new to the position. Last season, he played as a linebacker. Starting at his new position, he has 27 tackles and one sack this season.
Thomas is new to the Hoosiers and resides as a middle linebacker. Previously, he attended Foothill Community College in California. He has made 47 tackles this season, which is second behind Replogle, who has 50 tackles.
Although three out of the four tea captains for the game against Northwestern play defense, they are going to need a lot more than leadership if they want to stop the Wildcats. Northwestern is 5-2 with their two losses being in their most recent games against Purdue and Michigan State. Northwestern has a stronger defense than Indiana this year. Linebacker, Ben Johnson, leads the Wildcat defense.
Whenever the Hoosiers and Wildcats play, the games are always close. The last six of their meetings have been decided by a total of 23 points, however the Wildcats have won five of those six games. This week’s game will be a battle of both team’s offensive and defensive strategy. The game will come down to whichever team can finesse their technique and hold it together.
The game against Northwestern will be Indiana’s second attempt at securing head coach, Bill Lynch’s, 100th career win in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will also look to extend their record to 5-3. Kickoff is at 12:00 pm.
