Nebraska has one of its most important games this week as undefeated Missouri comes to Lincoln. I feel that the Missouri is under the spotlight here because it had to validate its victory against Oklahoma. That is also a reason why I believe Nebraska will win. Nebraska still has a defense that ranks among the top 20 in overall defense. Its main job here will be to get pressure on quarterback Blaine Gabbert. When he has had time to throw, like last week, he hits his spots. He racked up 30 completions last week. Only one of those resulted in a touchdown. Fans should see behind that number. Gabbert puts his team in a position to win. If the front four gets in Gabbert’s face, he might be trying to force completions. We all know what the defense does what that happens.
Taylor Martinez just showed why he is more than a running quarterback. Martinez threw for five touchdowns, long and short. He has proved that the Texas game has not rattled his confidence, and his ability to rebound. Besides Martinez, a player to watch on the offensive side is wide receiver Niles Paul. He had struggled the with dropping on target passes, but managed to, like Martinez, bounce back. He can go deep against a Tiger passing defense, which is just average in my mind. A good quarterback last week put up some points. Martinez can do the same.
Nebraska has seemed to come home and struggled. South Dakota State gave them a rough game, and Nebraska lost to Texas. Teams used to come here and wilt, not anymore. Once again, turnovers will serve key to Nebraska’s win. It has done that throughout the season. Barring any other upsets, this game will most likely determine who will represent the North Division in the Big 12 Championship Game. Nebraska gives Missouri its first loss of the year, 38-27.
